“SUCHITA” – MISSION “A TOILET A DAY AN INITIATIVE FOR REDUCING THE MENACE OF OPEN DEFECATION CONSTRUCTED 1000 TOILETS TILL DATE.....STILL COUNTING
Rotary Club of Calcutta Yuvis started a journey with a mission to end open defecation in the villages in and around Kolkata and took a pledge to construct “A Toilet A Day”. We named the Mission “SUCHITA” meaning Cleanliness. We continued with our practice of identifying the areas, surveying the people, screening the beneficiaries, involving the local organisations, inspecting the construction to ensure that RIGHT BENEFIT REACHES TO THE REIGHT BENEFICIARY and finally constructed and handed over complete 1070 Toilets till date. We also handed over 10 nos. ECOSEN toilet a perfect model for no water use toilets. These Toilets have been built in the areas of Joynagar, Chakdah, Jibonpur, Farakka, Birlapur, Raichak, Nalikul, Bhangar and Sheoraphuli. Rotary Club of Calcutta Yuvis genuinely feels that we have not only constructed the toilets but have been able to create awareness and helped in inculcating the right habits amongst the people towards Sanitation. Involvement of local people spurred the Employment also.
