At the turn of the century , a new club was ushered into the family of Rotary and was christened Rotary Club of Secunderabad Cantonment. In 2016, it was rechristened Rotary Club of Cantonment Secunderabad (RCCS). This year the club will turn eighteen on the 9 th of May 2019. Right from infancy, the club has been very active and vibrant; it has been the recipient of many accolades and awards for services rendered to society and for the various projects undertaken. Now in the bloom of youth, the club continues the tradition and hopes to touch many more lives.
The RCCS was started on 9 th May 2001 by Rtn Ramagopal, the Charter President, Rtn Wg Cdr Ashok Thadani the Charter Secretary, and 18 other charter members. Today we have 49 members and are still growing. Inducting more women leaders in our club to play their natural nurturing and inclusive role has added to the club’s aura.
Many worthwhile projects have been undertaken by this club and so far we have executed 6 matching grant projects independently, and we have undertaken many projects like providing bore wells, support to old age homes, home for special children, home for mentally handicapped children etc. We have regularly conducted medical camps, blood donation camps, wellness camps etc. We have also adopted and developed Govt Schools at Picket, Trimulgherry, Bolarum, Mudford and are adding more schools every year. We visit them regularly and assist them with note books, school bags, shoes, stationery and any other support that they need..
School desks is a major project and we have provided desks to many Government Schools in the last few years totalling to over 3000 desks with more than 1000 benches given in the last four years and propose to continue our good work in empowering schools. We also support schools through the TEACH programme initiated by Rotary India Literacy Mission in order to make India 100% literate! This comprehensive programme focuses on Total Literacy and Quality Education and includes T-Teacher Support, E-E learning, A-Adult Literacy, C- Child Development & H- Happy School.
The new generation is another focus area and to that end our club has sponsored 5 Interact clubs at the school level and many Government schools! All the Interact clubs are very active and collaborate with us to help the students of the government schools and also other organizations by doing community service. We have also organised various district events including Telugu and English RYLAS (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) successfully.
The Global Grant Project in association with Rotary clubs from US was executed and 8 Kasturi Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas in the surrounding areas were serviced and converted into Happy Schools giving them basic amenities like benches, hand wash stations, RO plants, e-learning equipment, library books, playground equipment, display boards , apart from facilitating teacher training programmes and painting the schools.
The Strength of the club lies in the fact that the Lady Rotarians and Past Presidents actively participate in the activities of the club. Our club has one of the highest number of lady Rotarians and each one of them is involved with the activities of the club.
As we step into adulthood, we will constantly strive to fulfil the aim of Rotary International which is to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world! We hope to enhance our contributions and serve society and at the same time build fellowship and friendship through camaraderie which will last a life time. The major strength of the club lies in the good will among the members and while we do a lot of service, we also have fun as we believe that “Fun gets work done!”
