"Happy School" Project at Rishra/ Serampore

Aditya Birla Jan Seva Trust

The Aditya Birla Jan Seva Trust was established in 2002 with the basic objectives to execute and implemtnt different social development schemes in and around Rishra and Barasat on behalf of Jaya Shree Textiles and Aditya Birla Insulators. The Trust has been actively invloved in different community welfare projects related to:

  • Education
  • Health Care
  • Sustainable Development
  • Infrastructure Development
  • Social Cause

The Aditya Birla Jan Seva Trust works in collaboration with different philantrophic organizations for greater outreach and better execution of the social projects.

Jaya Shree Textiles a unit of Aditya Birla Group Company has generously supported our club’s Happy School Project under its CSR initiative. The school supported is Simla Primary School, Rajyadharpur, Serampore, Hooghly. The main aim of our project was to construct a Class Room for the students who get displaced during Mid-day-meals as their class is used to serve the meal thus hampering their studies and to provide for clean drinking water for all students. Our club constructed a Class Room measuring 360 sq ft and installed a Wall Mounted UV Water Filter with capacity of 150 liters per hour with three years warranty. We, Rotarians took active supervisory role throughout the process from evaluation, planning, implementation and monitoring of the project and made multiple visits to the place. The construction started on 5th Aug 2015.

Around 300 students have benefited from this project and they are no longer required to discontinue their classes during mid-day-meals thus maintaining continuity in studies. They also get pure hygienic water to drink which positively supports their health, resulting in reduced medical costs for the family. Thus making this a Happy School.

" SUCHITA” : PROVIDING TOILETS TO UNDERPRIVILEGED PEOPLE

A JOINT PROJECT OF RCCY & RSH Global Pvt. Ltd.

  • Rotary Club of Calcutta Yuvis(RCCY) is committed to Reduce the problem of Open Defecation and has already constructed more than 1500 toilets in the last 5 years.
  • RSH Global Pvt. Ltd. (formerly Ratnasagar Herbals Pvt. Ltd.) has generously contributed and joined hands with RCCY in this noble project.
  • Objective : To reduce the problem of open Defecation in areas surrounding Kolkata by constructing 100 Single Pit Toilets.
  • Area Identification : Jibonpur and Bhangar
  • Social Needs : Being a village with generally low earning families , most of the houses in the proposed areas are without a proper toilet. This is a big environmental concern for the society apart from the women community members losing their privacy and self esteem. There is a need to build toilets in the houses of these underprivileged families.
  • Technical Aspect : Construction of Single Pit toilets with brick & concrete walls, aluminum framed door, asbestos/corrugated GI roof and Indian Style Pan.
  • Implementation Schedule : Beneficiaries have been identified in the approved areas. The Toilets will be built by local Contractor. Construction of 100 toilets will be taken up in phases and in the lots of 20-25 each and is expected to be completed in 1 year.
  • Sustainability Factors : Since these toilets are pucca constructions with brick & cement, these will have a long life and will be maintained by the beneficiaries themselves.
