My Belurian Family,
After a year full of some incredibly eventful and beautiful moments, I shall be finally laying my office as President of this wonderful club. I must confess that have been involved with quite a few community organisations, but honestly speaking none other have been more rewarding than this experience. I want to thank each and every one of our members for giving me this opportunity and the unflinching support extended to me at all times. Friends! It has been an honour to be your President. I shall really miss it all.
At the same time it gives me immense pleasure to pass on the reigns to our incoming and dynamic President Rtn. Aloke Kanodia with the assurance that I shall be there with him to serve Rotary.
Our paramount goal was to increase the FAMILY BONDING within our club, and we took it up in right earnest by trying to convert as many events as possible into a family affair. We did reasonably well with the average attendance during our RCM clocking between 45-50 members. I and my team decided to innovate keeping this concept in mind and were able to bring members and their family on many occasion quite successfully. The icing on the cake was RCM devoted to daughters of RCB family. The uniqueness of this splendid event was right from “Invocation”, “Introduction of Speaker” to “Thanks Giving” was all done by our daughters. The club perhaps had its highest attendance of 67 on that day. After a long period we organised one of our RCM at a member’s residence which was a tremendous accomplishment with the bonding and bonhomie touching its’ zenith. The Charter Day Function and the Diwali celebrations were just as successful events wherein the participation of our Spouses and Children was of more than 110++.
We were equally active on the District Front as well, with our members excelling on all the fronts. Belurians ruled the roost for being omnipresent in most major events of our Districts. The ball started rolling with District Training Assembly wherein we were assigned the role of being sole host and each and every member contributed in his/her own way thereby turning it into a super successful event. Later, during the District Conference “Aahvaan” held on the 11th and 12th January, 2020, where we were again the Lead Host, we presented our prestigious “Four Way Test Award“ at an exclusive programme to Sindhutai Sapkal, affectionately known as the “Mother of Orphans”, an Indian social worker and social activist, for her work in raising orphaned children in India. Moreover, our club was instrumental in adding star shimmering to the event by organising a visit by famous Indian movie actress Sharmila Tagore.
On the International Front my Installation day function created a record of sorts we had around 25 members attending it from 5 countries namely Singapore, Nepal, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Bangladesh under the aegis of this year’s theme Rotary Connects the world. Besides, under our heart surgery projects, we had 4 child patients from Afghanistan and 2 from. Nigeria coming with ASD/VSD
Under the other major project work WASH, it was heartening to note that we completed work at 7 schools with 5 more schools under various stages of completion.
Twenty years from now I would look back and remember the happenings and stories even Belurians and Rotary Belur treading new paths to greater glory. As we usher in a new Rotary Year I once again give my warm wishes to the incoming President Aloke and his vibrant team for a great year ahead.
With warm regards,
Ramesh Tiwari,
President 2019-20
