President's Message

Aloke Kumar Kanodia

I am very proud and honoured to have been a member of Rotary Club of Belur since 1992. I am even more excited to have the opportunity to serve as the President of this esteemed club for the next Rotary year. Words fall short in my thanking all members for having imposed their confidence by bestowing this huge responsibility upon me.

One of the key strengths of Rotary that we will continue to leverage as we deliver service to our community is the diversity in skills and vocation across our members, many of whom are successful business persons and professionals.

The Theme for this year is Rotary Opens Opportunities augments this further as Rotary does empowers us to set out our plans to serve, people who need our help. At the same time it also has an amazing opportunity for self-growth.

The year ahead is far more challenging with this pandemic refusing to relent till such time a vaccine is produced to discipline it. I as a person have always believed in this simple philosophy of life as rightly commented by psychologist Victor Frankl - ‘Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose’. Hence I feel that focusing on only working single-mindedly in service of mankind is the best way forward.

As we all are aware, ‘Supporting the Environment’ is being added as the 7th area of focus this year, I think we shall be putting more thrust on it. The other 6 peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development will continue to co-existing as before.

Friends, we at Rotary club of Belur, are an enthusiastic set of individuals who take pride in committing themselves to programmes and at the same time concluding it productively. So let’s come together to open the doors of opportunities for someone somewhere.

Warm regards,
Aloke Kumar Kanodia,
President 2020-21
